Method
Fried Green Tomatoes
- 1
Prepare Tomatoes
Slice the green tomatoes into 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick slices. Pat them dry with a paper towel to remove excess moisture.
- 2
Create Breading Station
Set up a breading station with three bowls. In the first bowl, place the flour mixed with salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. In the second bowl, pour the buttermilk. In the third bowl, combine the cornmeal with a little salt.
- 3
Bread the Tomatoes
Dredge each tomato slice in the flour mixture, then dip it in the buttermilk, and finally coat it in the cornmeal. Ensure each slice is well covered.
- 4
Fry the Tomatoes
In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the breaded tomato slices in batches, frying for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown. Use a slotted spoon to remove them and drain on paper towels.
Marinara Sauce
- 5
- 6
Add Tomatoes and Seasoning
Add the canned crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper to the saucepan. Stir well and let it simmer for about 15-20 minutes to allow flavors to meld.
- 7
Finish with Basil
Remove from heat and stir in the fresh basil leaves. Adjust seasoning if necessary.
Chipotle Bacon Ranch
- 8
Prepare Chipotle Bacon Ranch
In a blender, combine the ranch dressing, chipotle peppers, and cooked bacon. Blend until smooth and well mixed.
- 9
Serve
Transfer the chipotle bacon ranch dip to a serving bowl.
