Preparation
- 1
Muddle the Mint and Lime
In a sturdy glass or cocktail shaker, add the fresh mint leaves and sugar. Use a muddler or the back of a spoon to gently press down on the mint leaves, releasing their oils. Cut the lime into wedges and add to the glass. Muddle the lime wedges with the mint and sugar just enough to release the juice, but not so much that they are completely pulverized.
- 2
Add the Rum
Pour the white rum over the muddled mint and lime mixture. Stir gently to combine the flavors.
- 3
Add Ice
Fill the glass with ice cubes, packing them in tightly to keep the drink cold.
- 4
Top with Soda Water
Slowly pour the soda water over the ice and mint-lime mixture. This will help maintain the carbonation and freshness of the drink.
