Cake Ingredients
Method
Preparation
- 1
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). This will ensure that the cake bakes evenly.
- 2
Mixing Ingredients
- 3
Melt Chocolate and Butter
In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the semi-sweet chocolate and unsalted butter. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until completely melted and smooth.
- 4
Combine Sugar and Eggs
In a mixing bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, large eggs, and large egg yolks until the mixture is well combined and slightly thickened.
- 5
Mix in Chocolate
Slowly pour the melted chocolate mixture into the egg mixture, whisking continuously until fully incorporated.
- 6
Add Vanilla, Flour, and Salt
Add the vanilla extract, all-purpose flour, and a pinch of salt to the chocolate mixture. Stir until just combined; do not overmix.
Baking
- 7
Fill Ramekins
Divide the batter evenly among the prepared ramekins, filling each about 3/4 full.
- 8
Bake the Cakes
Place the ramekins on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for about 12-14 minutes. The edges should be firm, but the center will remain soft.
- 9
Let Cool
Remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool for 1 minute. Run a knife around the edges to loosen, then carefully invert onto serving plates.
Serving
- 10
Serve Warm
Serve the chocolate lava cakes immediately while warm. You can top them with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for an extra treat.
