Main Ingredients

Method

Preparation of Tamarind Chutney

  1. 1

    Soak Tamarind

In a bowl, soak the tamarind pulp in 200 ml of warm water for about 15 minutes to soften it.

  2. 2

    Extract Tamarind Juice

After soaking, mash the tamarind pulp with your fingers and strain the mixture using a sieve to extract the juice. Discard the solids.

  3. 3

    Mix Ingredients

In a saucepan, combine the tamarind juice, brown sugar, salt, ground cumin, red chili powder, and black salt. Stir well to dissolve the sugar.

  4. 4

    Cook the Mixture

Heat the saucepan over medium heat. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 10 minutes until it thickens slightly.

  5. 5

    Add Final Touches

Remove the saucepan from heat and let the chutney cool. Once cooled, stir in the chopped fresh coriander and lemon juice.

  6. 6

    Serve

Transfer the tamarind chutney to a serving bowl. It can be served immediately or stored in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
