Method

Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour and salt.

  3. 3

    Combine Ingredients

Add the activated yeast mixture and yogurt to the flour mixture. Stir until a dough begins to form.

  4. 4

    Knead the Dough

Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth. Incorporate olive oil during kneading.

  5. 5

    Let Dough Rise

Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Filling Preparation

  1. 6

    Sauté Spinach

In a skillet over medium heat, add a splash of olive oil and sauté the minced garlic until fragrant. Add the chopped spinach and cook until wilted. Season with salt and pepper.

  2. 7

    Mix Filling Ingredients

In a mixing bowl, combine the sautéed spinach with feta cheese and cream cheese. Mix until well combined. Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper as needed.

Assembling and Cooking

  1. 8

    Divide and Roll Out Dough

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 4 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a circle about 6 inches in diameter.

  2. 9

    Fill Naan

Place a generous spoonful of the spinach and cheese filling in the center of each rolled-out dough circle. Fold the dough over to encase the filling and pinch the edges to seal.

  3. 10

    Cook Naan

Preheat a skillet or tandoor over medium-high heat. Cook each stuffed naan for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and puffed up.

  4. 11

    Serve

Remove the naan from the skillet and brush with melted butter if desired. Serve warm with yogurt or chutney.
