Dough Ingredients

Method

Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.

  2. 2

    Make the Dough

In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt. Create a well in the center and add the frothy yeast mixture, yogurt, and ghee or melted butter. Mix until it forms a dough.

  3. 3

    Knead the Dough

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  4. 4

    Let the Dough Rise

Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Filling Preparation

  1. 5

    Prepare the Filling

In a bowl, mix together desiccated coconut, chopped mixed nuts, brown sugar, cardamom powder, and raisins until well combined.

Naan Preparation

  1. 6

    Shape the Naan

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into equal portions. Take one portion and roll it flat with a rolling pin.

  2. 7

    Add the Filling

Place a spoonful of the filling mixture in the center of the rolled dough. Gather the edges to enclose the filling and pinch to seal.

  3. 8

    Roll the Naan Again

Gently roll the stuffed dough ball again into a flat naan shape, making sure not to let the filling escape.

  4. 9

    Cook the Naan

Preheat a tandoor or a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the naan for about 2-3 minutes on each side until it’s golden brown and puffed up. Brush with ghee or butter before serving.
