Dough Preparation

Activate Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 10 minutes until frothy.

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour and salt.

Knead the Dough
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

Let Dough Rise
Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours or until doubled in size.
Cooking the Naan

Preheat Cooking Surface
Preheat a cast iron skillet or tandoor on medium-high heat.

Shape the Naan
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 6 equal portions. Roll each portion into a ball and then flatten it into an oval shape about 1/4 inch thick.

Cook the Naan
Place the naan on the preheated skillet and cook for about 2-3 minutes until bubbles form on the surface. Flip and cook for another 1-2 minutes until golden brown.

Repeat the process for the remaining dough, brushing with more butter and adding toppings as desired.
