Dough Ingredients

Method

Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 10 minutes until frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour and salt.

  3. 3

    Combine Ingredients

Make a well in the center of the flour mixture, add the activated yeast mixture, yogurt, and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.

  4. 4

    Knead the Dough

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  5. 5

    Let Dough Rise

Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours or until doubled in size.

Cooking the Naan

  1. 6

    Preheat Cooking Surface

Preheat a cast iron skillet or tandoor on medium-high heat.

  2. 7

    Shape the Naan

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 6 equal portions. Roll each portion into a ball and then flatten it into an oval shape about 1/4 inch thick.

  3. 8

    Add Toppings

Brush the top of each naan with melted butter and sprinkle minced garlic, cilantro, and parsley on top.

  4. 9

    Cook the Naan

Place the naan on the preheated skillet and cook for about 2-3 minutes until bubbles form on the surface. Flip and cook for another 1-2 minutes until golden brown.

  5. 10

    Repeat the Process

Repeat the process for the remaining dough, brushing with more butter and adding toppings as desired.

  6. 11

    Serve

Serve the garlic naan warm with your favorite Indian dishes.
