Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Ingredients

Chop the chicken into bite-sized pieces. Rinse and drain the canned chickpeas if using. Finely chop the onion, and mince the garlic. Grate the ginger.

Cooking

  1. 2

    Sauté the Aromatics

In a large pan, heat a bit of oil over medium heat. Add the cumin seeds and let them sizzle for a few seconds. Then add the chopped onion, garlic, and ginger. Sauté until the onion becomes translucent.

  2. 3

    Cook the Chicken

Add the chicken pieces to the pan. Cook until the chicken is no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes. Stir occasionally to ensure even cooking.

  3. 4

    Add Spices

Once the chicken is cooked, add the coriander powder, garam masala, turmeric powder, red chili powder, salt, and black pepper. Stir well to coat the chicken with the spices.

  4. 5

    Combine with Chickpeas

Add the chickpeas, coconut milk, and chicken broth to the pan. Stir everything together and bring to a gentle simmer.

  5. 6

    Simmer

Reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for about 15-20 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together. Stir occasionally.

  6. 7

    Garnish and Serve

Remove the pan from heat. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve with lemon wedges on the side.
