Method

Preparation

1

Rinse the Rice

Place the jasmine rice in a fine-mesh strainer and rinse it under cold running water for about 2-3 minutes. This removes excess starch and helps prevent the rice from becoming sticky.

2

Measure Water and Salt

In a medium saucepan, combine 1.5 cups of water and 0.5 tsp of salt. If you are using butter or oil, add it to the water mixture as well.

Cooking

3

Boil the Water

Bring the water mixture to a boil over high heat.

4

Add the Rice

Once the water is boiling, add the rinsed jasmine rice to the saucepan. Stir once to prevent the rice from sticking.

5

Simmer the Rice

Reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan with a lid, and let the rice simmer for about 15 minutes. Do not lift the lid during this time.

6

Fluff the Rice

After 15 minutes, remove the saucepan from heat. Let it sit, covered, for an additional 5 minutes. Then, remove the lid and fluff the rice gently with a fork.
