Salisbury Steak

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Make the Salisbury Steaks

In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined. Form into 4 oval patties.

  2. 2

    Cook the Patties

In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the patties and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until browned and cooked through. Remove patties and set aside.

  3. 3

    Prepare the Gravy

In the same skillet, add sliced onions and cook until caramelized, about 5-7 minutes. Add sliced mushrooms and sauté for another 3-4 minutes.

  4. 4

    Make the Gravy

Pour in beef broth and bring to a simmer. In a small bowl, mix cornstarch with 2 tablespoons of water to create a slurry. Stir the slurry into the gravy to thicken. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes.

  5. 5

    Combine and Serve

Return the patties to the skillet, spooning the gravy over them. Serve the Salisbury steaks on a bed of mashed potatoes and top with additional gravy, mushrooms, and caramelized onions.
