Preparation
1. Prepare the Potatoes
Wash and peel the Russet potatoes. Cut them into even strips, about 1/4 inch thick.
2. Soak the Potatoes
Place the cut potatoes in a bowl of cold water and soak for at least 30 minutes. This helps to remove excess starch and makes them crispier.
3. Heat the Oil
In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).
4. Fry the Potatoes
Remove the soaked potatoes from the water and pat them dry with a paper towel. Carefully add a portion of the potatoes to the hot oil and fry for 5-7 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
5. Drain and Season
Using a slotted spoon, remove the fries from the oil and drain them on paper towels. While they're still hot, season with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika to taste.
6. Repeat
Repeat the frying process with the remaining potatoes.
7. Serve
Serve the fries hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
