Method
Preparation
- 1
Trim the Pork
Remove any excess fat from the pork shoulder to ensure it cooks evenly and doesn't become too greasy.
- 2
Season the Pork
In a small bowl, combine salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika. Rub this seasoning mix all over the pork shoulder, ensuring it's well coated.
Cooking
- 3
Slow Cook the Pork
Place the seasoned pork shoulder in a slow cooker. Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours, or until the meat is tender and easily pulls apart.
- 4
Shred the Meat
Once cooked, remove the pork shoulder from the slow cooker and let it rest for about 15 minutes. Use two forks to shred the meat into bite-sized pieces.
- 5
Add Barbecue Sauce
Return the shredded pork to the slow cooker and pour in the barbecue sauce. Stir to combine and let it cook on low for an additional 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
Serving
- 6
Prepare Optional Sides
While the pork is finishing, prepare any optional sides like coleslaw, cornbread, and pickles to serve alongside the barbecue pork.
- 7
Serve
Serve the barbecue pork on a platter, alongside the prepared sides. You can slice or chop the pork as desired.
