Method

Preparation

1

Combine Base Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ketchup, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, and honey. Whisk together until smooth.

2

Add Spices and Seasonings

Add the Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, black pepper, and salt to the bowl. Mix well to ensure all ingredients are evenly combined.

3

Adjust Heat Level

For medium heat, stir in the cayenne pepper and hot sauce. For hot, increase the amount of cayenne pepper to 1 teaspoon and hot sauce to 4 tablespoons. For mild, omit the cayenne and use just 1 tablespoon of hot sauce.

Cooking

4

Simmer the Sauce

Pour the sauce mixture into a saucepan and bring to a low simmer over medium heat. Allow it to simmer for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

5

Cool and Store

Remove the saucepan from heat and let the sauce cool. Once cooled, transfer it to an airtight container and refrigerate until ready to use.
