Shrimp Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Shrimp
Peel and devein the wild caught white shrimp, then rinse them under cold water. Pat dry with paper towels. Season the shrimp with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Set aside.
- 2
Prepare the Breading
In a bowl, beat the large egg. In another bowl, place the cornstarch. In a third bowl, add the panko breadcrumbs. Dip each shrimp first into cornstarch, then into the egg, and finally coat with panko breadcrumbs, pressing gently to ensure the breadcrumbs adhere.
Frying
- 3
Heat the Oil
In a deep saucepan or frying pan, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer for accuracy.
- 4
Fry the Shrimp
Carefully add the breaded shrimp in batches to the hot oil. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to remove the shrimp and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
Glaze Preparation
- 5
Make the Glaze
In a saucepan over medium heat, combine honey, Sriracha sauce, soy sauce, lime juice, and red pepper flakes. Stir well and bring to a simmer. Cook for about 5 minutes until the glaze thickens slightly.
- 6
Combine Shrimp with Glaze
Once the glaze is ready, add the fried shrimp to the saucepan and toss gently to coat the shrimp evenly with the glaze. Cook for an additional minute to heat through.
Serving
- 7
Serve the Dish
Transfer the sweet and spicy popcorn shrimp to a serving platter. Sprinkle with sesame seeds and serve immediately. Enjoy your delicious movie theatre-style shrimp!
