Preparing the Topping

Chop the Tomatoes
Dice the ripe tomatoes into small pieces and place them in a mixing bowl.

Add Basil and Garlic
Chop the fresh basil leaves and mince the garlic cloves. Add both to the bowl with the tomatoes.

Season the Mixture
Drizzle the extra virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar over the tomato mixture. Sprinkle with salt and black pepper to taste. Mix well.
Preparing the Bread

Slice the Baguette
Cut the baguette into 1/2 inch thick slices.

Toast the Bread
Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Place the baguette slices on a baking sheet and toast them in the oven for about 5-7 minutes, or until they are golden brown.
Assembling the Bruschetta

Top the Toasted Bread
Remove the toasted bread from the oven and let it cool for a minute. Using a spoon, generously top each slice with the tomato mixture.

Serve
Drizzle any remaining olive oil over the bruschetta if desired, and serve immediately while the bread is still warm.
