Fried Chicken
Buttermilk Biscuits
Honey
Method
Fried Chicken
- 1
Marinate the Chicken
In a large bowl, combine the whole chicken with buttermilk. Ensure the chicken is fully submerged. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight for the best results.
- 2
Prepare the Flour Mixture
In another bowl, mix the all-purpose flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper together until well combined.
- 3
Heat the Oil
In a large, heavy-bottomed pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer for accuracy.
- 4
Coat the Chicken
Remove the chicken from the buttermilk, allowing excess to drip off. Dredge the chicken in the flour mixture until fully coated, shaking off any excess flour.
- 5
Fry the Chicken
Carefully place the coated chicken in the hot oil, frying in batches if necessary. Fry for about 12-15 minutes per side, or until the chicken is golden brown and reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (75°C).
- 6
Drain and Rest
Once cooked, remove the chicken from the oil and place it on a wire rack or paper towels to drain excess oil. Let it rest for 5-10 minutes before serving.
Buttermilk Biscuits
- 7
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C).
- 8
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- 9
Cut in Butter
Cut the cold stick of unsalted butter into small pieces and add it to the dry ingredients. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to work the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- 10
Add Buttermilk
Pour in the buttermilk and stir gently until just combined. Do not overmix.
- 11
Shape the Biscuits
Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and gently knead it a few times. Pat it into a rectangle about 1-inch thick. Cut out biscuits using a biscuit cutter or glass.
- 12
Bake the Biscuits
Place the cut biscuits on a baking sheet, close together but not touching. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown.
Honey
- 13
Serve with Honey
Pour 1 cup of honey into a small bowl for dipping or drizzling over the fried chicken and biscuits.
