Method

Cake Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.

  3. 3

    Add Wet Ingredients

Add the eggs, whole milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes until well blended.

  4. 4

    Incorporate Boiling Water

Stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth. The batter will be thin.

  5. 5

    Bake the Cake

Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  6. 6

    Cool the Cakes

Remove from the oven and let cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, remove the cakes from the pans and place them on wire racks to cool completely.

Whipped Cream Preparation

  1. 7

    Whip the Cream

In a large mixing bowl, pour the heavy whipping cream. Beat on high speed until soft peaks form.

  2. 8

    Add Sugar and Vanilla

Add the powdered sugar and vanilla extract to the whipped cream. Continue beating until stiff peaks form.

Assembly

  1. 9

    Layer the Cake

Once the cakes are completely cooled, place one layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of whipped cream on top.

  2. 10

    Top with Second Layer

Place the second cake layer on top of the whipped cream. Use the remaining whipped cream to frost the top and sides of the cake.

  3. 11

    Serve

Slice the cake and serve with additional whipped cream if desired.
