Cooking the Pasta

Boil Water
Fill a large pot with water, add salt, and bring to a boil over high heat.

Cook Pasta
Add the fettuccine pasta to the boiling water and cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 8-10 minutes.

Drain Pasta
Once cooked, drain the pasta and set aside. Reserve about 1 cup of pasta water for later use.
Making the Alfredo Sauce

Melt Butter
In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the unsalted butter.

Add Cream
Pour in the heavy cream and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer. Stir occasionally for about 5 minutes.

Add Cheese and Season
Gradually whisk in the grated Parmesan cheese until melted and smooth. Season with black pepper and nutmeg (if using).
Combining Pasta and Sauce

Combine
Add the drained fettuccine to the Alfredo sauce in the skillet. Toss well to coat the pasta in the sauce.

Adjust Consistency
If the sauce is too thick, add reserved pasta water a little at a time until you reach your desired consistency.

Transfer the fettuccine Alfredo to serving plates and garnish with chopped fresh parsley before serving.
