Salad Base

Method

Preparing the Salad Base

  1. 1

    Wash and Chop Lettuce

Begin by washing the romaine lettuce thoroughly under cold water to remove any dirt or debris. Pat it dry with a clean towel, then chop it into bite-sized pieces.

  2. 2

    Prepare Croutons

If using store-bought croutons, measure out 1 cup. If making homemade croutons, cut stale bread into cubes, toss with olive oil, garlic powder, and season with salt and pepper, then bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) until golden and crunchy, about 10-15 minutes.

Making the Dressing

  1. 3

    Combine Ingredients

In a medium bowl, whisk together the olive oil, grated Parmesan cheese, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, and minced garlic until smooth and well combined.

  2. 4

    Season the Dressing

Taste the dressing and season with salt and freshly ground black pepper according to your preference. Mix again to incorporate the seasonings.

Assembling the Salad

  1. 5

    Combine Salad Ingredients

In a large salad bowl, add the chopped romaine lettuce and croutons.

  2. 6

    Add Dressing

Drizzle the prepared dressing over the salad and toss gently to coat the lettuce and croutons evenly with the dressing.

  3. 7

    Serve

Serve immediately, garnishing with additional Parmesan cheese if desired.
