Method
Prepare the Topping
- 1
Dice the Tomatoes
Begin by washing the Roma tomatoes thoroughly. Remove the stems and dice them into small cubes. Place the diced tomatoes in a mixing bowl.
- 2
Chop the Basil
Rinse the fresh basil leaves under cold water, pat them dry with a paper towel, and chop them finely. Add the chopped basil to the bowl with the tomatoes.
- 3
Mince the Garlic
Peel the garlic cloves and mince them finely. Add the minced garlic to the tomato and basil mixture.
- 4
Add Seasonings
Drizzle the extra virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar over the tomato mixture. Season with salt and black pepper to taste. Gently toss all the ingredients together until well combined. Set aside to allow the flavors to meld.
Toast the Bread
- 5
Slice the Bread
Take the baguette or Italian bread and slice it into 1/2-inch thick slices.
- 6
Toast the Slices
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Arrange the bread slices on a baking sheet and lightly brush one side with olive oil. Place the baking sheet in the oven and toast for about 5-7 minutes or until the bread is golden and crispy.
Assemble the Bruschetta
- 7
Top the Toasted Bread
Once the bread is toasted, remove it from the oven. Spoon a generous amount of the tomato mixture onto the toasted side of each slice.
- 8
Serve
Arrange the bruschetta on a serving platter and serve immediately while the bread is warm and the topping is fresh.
