Preparing the Patty

Mix Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix gently until just combined.

Shape Patties
Divide the mixture into two equal portions and shape them into patties, about 1 inch thick.

Indent Patties
Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty with your thumb to prevent the patty from puffing up while cooking.

Cook Second Side
Flip the patties and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes for medium-rare, or longer if desired.

Melt Cheese
During the last minute of cooking, place slices of cheese on top of the patties and cover to melt the cheese.
Assembling the Burger

Prepare Toppings
While the patties are cooking, prepare the toppings by washing the lettuce, slicing the tomato, and slicing the onion.

Toast Buns
Toast the burger buns on the grill or in a toaster until lightly golden.

Assemble Burger
Assemble the burgers by placing a patty on the bottom half of each bun, followed by lettuce, tomato, and onion.
