Ingredients for Jeera Rice

Method

Cooking Directions

  1. 1

    Rinse the Rice

Thoroughly rinse the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Soak the rice in water for 30 minutes, then drain.

  2. 2

    Heat the Ghee/Oil

In a pot, heat the ghee or oil over medium heat. Once hot, add the cumin seeds. Sauté for 30 seconds until they start to crackle.

  3. 3

    Add Spices

Add the bay leaf, cloves, and cinnamon stick. Sauté for an additional minute to release their flavors.

  4. 4

    Cook the Rice

Add the drained basmati rice to the pot and stir gently to coat the rice with the ghee and spices. Cook for 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  5. 5

    Add Water and Salt

Pour in 2 cups of water and add salt. Stir to combine and bring to a boil.

  6. 6

    Simmer

Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and let it simmer for about 15 minutes or until the rice is cooked and water is absorbed.

  7. 7

    Fluff and Garnish

Remove the pot from heat and let it sit covered for 5 minutes. Fluff the rice with a fork and garnish with fresh coriander leaves before serving.
