Jalapeño Cream Cheese
Method
Pretzel Dough Preparation
- 1
Activate the Yeast
In a mixing bowl, combine warm water, granulated sugar, and active dry yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- 2
Mix the Dough
In a large bowl, combine the activated yeast mixture, salt, and vegetable oil. Gradually add the all-purpose flour, mixing until a dough forms.
- 3
Knead the Dough
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes, until the dough is smooth and elastic.
- 4
Let the Dough Rise
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm area for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
Shape and Bake the Pretzels
- 5
Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
- 6
Form the Pretzels
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a long rope (about 18 inches) and shape it into a pretzel.
- 7
Prepare Baking Soda Bath
In a large pot, bring 10 cups of water and 1 tablespoon of baking soda to a boil. Carefully drop each pretzel into the boiling water for about 30 seconds, then remove and place on the baking sheets.
- 8
Add Sea Salt
Sprinkle coarse sea salt on top of each pretzel before baking.
- 9
Bake the Pretzels
Bake the pretzels in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from oven and let cool slightly.
Jalapeño Cream Cheese Preparation
- 10
Prepare Jalapeño
Finely chop the jalapeño pepper, removing seeds if you prefer less heat.
- 11
Mix Cream Cheese
In a mixing bowl, combine cream cheese, chopped jalapeño, garlic powder, lime juice, and salt. Mix until smooth and well combined.
- 12
Serve
Transfer the jalapeño cream cheese to a serving bowl and serve alongside the warm pretzels.
