Method

Steak Preparation

  1. 1

    Season the Steaks

Sprinkle both sides of each beef round steak generously with salt and black pepper.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Breading Station

Set up a breading station with three shallow bowls. In the first bowl, add 1 cup of flour. In the second bowl, beat together the eggs and 1 cup of milk. In the third bowl, add another cup of flour.

  3. 3

    Bread the Steaks

Dip each seasoned steak first into the flour, then into the egg and milk mixture, and finally back into the flour to coat evenly.

  4. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a large skillet, heat 1 cup of vegetable oil over medium-high heat until hot but not smoking.

  5. 5

    Fry the Steaks

Carefully place the breaded steaks into the hot oil, cooking for about 4-5 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove and drain on paper towels.

Gravy Preparation

  1. 6

    Make the Roux

In the same skillet used for frying, leave about 2 tablespoons of oil and add 4 tablespoons of flour. Stir continuously over medium heat for about 2 minutes until the flour is lightly browned.

  2. 7

    Add Milk

Gradually whisk in 2 cups of milk, ensuring there are no lumps. Continue stirring until the gravy thickens, about 5 minutes.

  3. 8

    Season the Gravy

Season the gravy with salt and black pepper to taste. Stir well and remove from heat.
