Method
Preparing the Tri Tip
- 1
Season the Tri Tip
Rub the tri-tip roast with olive oil, ensuring it is evenly coated. In a small bowl, mix together kosher salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and smoked paprika. Generously season the roast on all sides with the spice mixture.
- 2
Marinate
Let the seasoned tri-tip sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes to marinate. If you have more time, consider marinating it in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours for more flavor.
- 3
Cook the Tri Tip
Preheat your grill or oven to 400°F (200°C). If grilling, place the tri-tip on the grill over medium-high heat. Sear each side for about 4-5 minutes, then move to indirect heat and cook for an additional 20-30 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 135°F (57°C) for medium-rare. If baking, place the tri-tip on a roasting rack in a baking dish and cook until it reaches the same temperature.
- 4
Rest the Meat
Once cooked, remove the tri-tip from the heat and let it rest for 10-15 minutes. This allows the juices to redistribute.
- 5
Slice the Meat
After resting, slice the tri-tip against the grain into thin slices.
Assembling the Sandwich
- 6
Prepare the Ciabatta Rolls
Slice the ciabatta rolls in half and lightly toast them on the grill or under a broiler until golden brown.
- 7
Spread Mayonnaise
Spread a generous layer of mayonnaise on the inside of each ciabatta roll.
- 8
- 9
Close the Sandwich
Place the top half of the ciabatta roll over the layered ingredients to complete the sandwich.
- 10
Serve
Cut the sandwiches in half if desired and serve with chips or a side salad.
