Salad Base

Method

Preparing the Salad Base

  1. 1

    Wash and Chop Romaine

Wash the romaine lettuce under cold water to remove any dirt. Shake off excess water, then chop into bite-sized pieces.

  2. 2

    Prepare Croutons

If using store-bought croutons, measure out 1 cup. If making homemade, cut day-old bread into cubes, toss with olive oil, garlic powder, and bake at 375°F (190°C) for 10-15 minutes until golden brown.

  3. 3

    Grate Parmesan

Using a cheese grater, grate the Parmesan cheese until you have about 0.5 cup. Set aside.

Making the Dressing

  1. 4

    Combine Dressing Ingredients

In a medium bowl, combine 1 cup of mayonnaise, 2 tablespoons of lemon juice, 1 teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce, 2 minced garlic cloves, and 2 minced anchovy filets.

  2. 5

    Season the Dressing

Add 0.5 teaspoons of salt and 0.5 teaspoons of black pepper to the bowl. Whisk everything together until smooth and well blended.

Assembling the Salad

  1. 6

    Combine Ingredients

In a large salad bowl, add the chopped romaine lettuce, croutons, and grated Parmesan cheese.

  2. 7

    Dress the Salad

Pour the prepared Caesar dressing over the salad mixture. Toss gently to coat all the ingredients evenly with the dressing.

  3. 8

    Serve

Serve immediately while the lettuce is crisp and the croutons are crunchy. Enjoy your homemade Caesar salad!
