Ingredients - Steamed Rice GF
Method
Directions - Steamed Rice GF
- 1
Rinse 2 cups of long-grain white rice under cold running water until the water runs clear. This removes surface starch and helps keep grains separate.
- 2
Optional: Soak the rinsed rice in fresh water for 15-30 minutes, then drain. Soaking can improve texture and evenness of cooking.
- 3
In a heavy-bottomed pot with a tight-fitting lid, combine the rinsed (or soaked and drained) rice, 2.5 cups water, 0.5 tsp salt, and 1 tablespoon olive oil (if using).
- 4
Bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Once boiling, reduce heat to low, cover the pot, and simmer for 15-18 minutes, or until the water is fully absorbed and the rice is tender.
- 5
Turn off the heat and let the rice rest, still covered, for 5-10 minutes to finish steaming.
- 6
Fluff the rice gently with a fork before serving. Keep covered if not serving immediately.
