Extra Sauce
Method
Extra Sauce
- 1
Melt butter and sauté garlic
In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter and add the minced garlic. Sauté until fragrant, about 30 seconds, watching carefully so the garlic does not burn.
- 2
Add honey, soy sauce, and rice vinegar
Stir in the honey, soy sauce, and rice vinegar. Bring to a gentle simmer and cook for 2–3 minutes to blend flavors. If you like heat, add crushed red pepper flakes here.
- 3
Add water and simmer
Pour in the water and continue to simmer for 2–3 minutes to integrate with the base.
- 4
Thicken with cornstarch slurry
In a small bowl whisk 1 teaspoon cornstarch with 1 tablespoon water to make a slurry. Whisk the slurry into the sauce and simmer until the sauce thickens to coat the back of a spoon, about 1–2 minutes.
- 5
Finish and serve
Taste and adjust if needed. The sauce will reduce slightly as it cools and should yield approximately 8 oz (about 237 ml).
