Method
Dumpling Wrapper Preparation
- 1
Make the Dough
In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and salt. Gradually add water while mixing until a dough forms.
- 2
Knead the Dough
Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic.
- 3
Rest the Dough
Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for at least 30 minutes.
Filling Preparation
- 4
Mix the Filling
In a large bowl, combine ground pork, green onions, grated carrot, minced garlic, minced ginger, soy sauce, sesame oil, salt, and pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
Dumpling Assembly
- 5
Roll the Dough
After resting, divide the dough into small portions. Roll each portion into a thin circle, about 3 inches in diameter.
- 6
Fill the Dumplings
Place a tablespoon of the filling in the center of each wrapper. Fold the wrapper over to create a half-moon shape, pinch the edges to seal. You can pleat the edges for a decorative touch.
Cooking the Dumplings
- 7
Prepare the Steamer
Fill a pot with water and bring it to a simmer. Line a steamer basket with parchment paper or cabbage leaves to prevent sticking.
- 8
Steam the Dumplings
Arrange the dumplings in a single layer in the steamer basket, making sure they are not touching. Cover and steam for about 15-20 minutes or until the pork is cooked through.
