Saffron Rice

White Rice

Method

Saffron Rice

  1. 1

    Prepare Saffron

Soak the saffron threads in 2 tablespoons of warm water for about 10 minutes to release their color and flavor.

  2. 2

    Cook Rice

In a saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the basmati rice and toast it for 2-3 minutes until it's slightly golden.

  3. 3

    Add Water and Saffron

Add the soaked saffron along with the water and salt to the saucepan. Stir to combine.

  4. 4

    Simmer

Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15-20 minutes until the rice is tender and all the water is absorbed.

  5. 5

    Fluff and Serve

Remove from heat, let it sit covered for 5 minutes, then fluff with a fork and serve.

White Rice

  1. 6

    Prepare Rice

Rinse the long-grain white rice under cold water until the water runs clear.

  2. 7

    Cook Rice

In a medium saucepan, combine the rinsed rice, water, butter, and salt. Bring to a boil over high heat.

  3. 8

    Simmer

Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan, and let it simmer for about 18 minutes or until the rice is tender and the water has been absorbed.

  4. 9

    Fluff and Serve

Remove from heat and let it sit covered for 5 minutes. Fluff with a fork and serve.

Black Beans

  1. 10

    Sauté Vegetables

In a saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté for about 3-4 minutes until translucent.

  2. 11

    Add Garlic and Beans

Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute. Then, add the canned black beans (drained and rinsed), cumin, salt, and pepper.

  3. 12

    Simmer

Stir to combine and let it simmer on low heat for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  4. 13

    Serve

Serve the seasoned black beans hot, either as a side or as a topping for rice.
