Cooking Instructions

1

Prepare the Tuna

Season the tuna steak with salt and pepper. Heat a grill pan or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the tuna steak for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until cooked to desired doneness. Remove from heat and let it rest for a few minutes before flaking it into a bowl.

2

Sauté the Onion

In the same pan, add a tablespoon of olive oil or butter and sauté the chopped onion until translucent, about 3-4 minutes.

3

Combine Ingredients

In the bowl with the flaked tuna, add the sautéed onion and 1000 Island dressing. Mix well until combined.

4

Assemble the Patty Melt

Spread a thin layer of olive oil or butter on one side of each slice of dark rye bread. On the unbuttered side of two slices, layer half of the tuna mixture, followed by two slices of American cheese. Top with the remaining tuna mixture and another slice of cheese, then place the other slice of bread on top, buttered side facing out.

5

Grill the Sandwich

In the same skillet, place the assembled sandwich and grill for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted. Press down gently with a spatula for even grilling.

6

Serve

Remove from heat, slice in half, and serve immediately with extra 1000 Island dressing on the side, if desired.
