Doughnut Batter

Method

Doughnut Preparation

  1. 1

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.

  2. 2

    Prepare Wet Ingredients

In a separate bowl, whisk the eggs, vanilla extract, and milk together. Add the melted butter and mix until smooth.

  3. 3

    Combine Mixtures

Gradually pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients, stirring gently until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; the batter should be slightly lumpy.

  4. 4

    Rest the Batter

Let the batter rest for about 10 minutes to allow the baking powder to activate.

Frying

  1. 5

    Heat Oil

In a large, deep skillet or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  2. 6

    Shape the Doughnuts

Using a spoon or a small ice cream scoop, drop spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil, being careful not to overcrowd the pan. You can shape them into small balls or leave them as is for a more rustic look.

  3. 7

    Fry the Doughnuts

Fry the doughnuts for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown and puffed up.

  4. 8

    Drain Excess Oil

Using a slotted spoon, remove the doughnuts from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain any excess oil.

Serving

  1. 9

    Add Toppings

Serve the warm doughnuts topped with a generous dollop of sour cream and your choice of berry jam or Nutella.

  2. 10

    Enjoy!

Dig in and enjoy your delicious homemade Papanashi while they're still warm!
