French Fries

Method

Preparation and Cooking

  1. 1

    Prepare the Potatoes

Peel the Russet potatoes and cut them into thin strips, about 1/4 inch thick.

  2. 2

    Soak the Potatoes

Place the cut potatoes in a bowl of cold water and let them soak for at least 30 minutes. This helps to remove excess starch.

  3. 3

    Dry the Potatoes

Drain the potatoes and pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.

  4. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a deep fryer or a large pot, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).

  5. 5

    Fry the Potatoes

Carefully add the potatoes to the hot oil in batches, frying for about 5-7 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

  6. 6

    Season and Serve

While the fries are still hot, sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste. Serve immediately.
