Dough

Method

Prepare the Dough

  1. 1

    Mix the Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, salt, and active dry yeast.

  2. 2

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In a separate bowl, combine the warm milk, melted unsalted butter, and eggs. Mix well until combined.

  3. 3

    Form the Dough

Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms. Knead for about 5-7 minutes on a floured surface until smooth.

  4. 4

    Let It Rise

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Prepare the Filling

  1. 5

    Mix the Filling

In a bowl, blend the cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth. This will be your pastry filling.

Assemble and Bake

  1. 6

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

  2. 7

    Shape the Pastries

Roll out the dough on a floured surface and cut it into squares or circles. Place a spoonful of the cream cheese filling in the center of each piece. If using, add a dollop of fruit preserves on top.

  3. 8

    Seal and Prepare for Baking

Fold the dough over to form a pocket and pinch the edges to seal. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  4. 9

    Apply Egg Wash

Brush the tops with the egg wash mixture to give them a golden color when baked.

  5. 10

    Bake

Bake in the preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.

  6. 11

    Dust with Powdered Sugar

Allow the pastries to cool slightly before dusting with powdered sugar.
