Fried Catfish Ingredients

Method

Fried Catfish Preparation

  1. 1

    Marinate the Catfish

In a bowl, soak the catfish fillets in buttermilk for at least 30 minutes. This will help tenderize the fish and add flavor.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Coating

In a separate bowl, mix together the cornmeal, flour, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.

  3. 3

    Coat the Catfish

Remove the catfish fillets from the buttermilk and allow the excess to drip off. Dredge each fillet in the cornmeal mixture, ensuring they are well coated.

  4. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a deep skillet or fryer, heat the oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  5. 5

    Fry the Catfish

Carefully place the coated catfish fillets in the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding. Cook for 3-4 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.

  6. 6

    Serve

Serve the fried catfish fillets hot with your favorite sides, such as coleslaw or cornbread.
