Method

Preparing the Fish

  1. 1

    Make the Batter

In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and black pepper. Gradually add the beer, mixing until smooth.

  2. 2

    Batter the Cod

Dip each cod fillet into the batter, ensuring they are fully coated.

Frying the Fish

  1. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).

  2. 4

    Fry the Cod

Carefully place the battered cod fillets into the hot oil and fry for about 4-5 minutes, or until golden brown. Remove and drain on paper towels.

Preparing the Fries

  1. 5

    Cut the Potatoes

Peel and cut the potatoes into thin shoestring fries.

  2. 6

    Fry the Potatoes

Fry the potatoes in hot oil until golden and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels, then season with salt.

Making the Coleslaw

  1. 7

    Mix the Slaw

In a large bowl, combine shredded cabbage and grated carrots. In another bowl, mix mayonnaise, apple cider vinegar, sugar, salt, and black pepper. Pour the dressing over the cabbage mixture and toss to combine.
