Method

Preparation of Meat

  1. 1

    Sauté the Meats

In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat. Add the cubed beef, pork, and chicken. Season with salt and black pepper. Cook until browned on all sides, about 8-10 minutes. Remove the meats from the skillet and set aside.

Cooking Vegetables

  1. 2

    Sauté Vegetables

In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of olive oil. Add the chopped onion, garlic, and bell pepper. Sauté for about 5 minutes until softened. Then add the chopped tomato and sliced carrot. Cook for an additional 3-4 minutes.

Combining Ingredients

  1. 3

    Combine and Simmer

Return the sautéed meats to the skillet with the vegetables. Add the paprika, bay leaves, and mix well. Pour in enough water to cover the mixture. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Cooking Sides

  1. 4

    Prepare Rice

In a separate pot, cook the rice according to package instructions. Generally, combine 200g of rice with 400ml of water, bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and cover for 15-20 minutes or until water is absorbed.

  2. 5

    Fry Potatoes

In a deep fryer or a large pot, heat oil to 180°C (350°F). Add the cut potatoes and fry until golden brown, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from oil and drain on paper towels. Season with salt to taste.

Serving

  1. 6

    Plate the Dish

Serve the sautéed meat mixture over a bed of rice and arrange the fries on the side. Enjoy your Picadinho a Portuguesa!
