Directions
- 1
Prepare the Shrimp
Start by rinsing the shrimp under cold water to remove any impurities. Remove the shells if desired, but peeling after cooking is traditional.
- 2
Prepare the Cooking Liquid
In a large pot, combine 4 quarts of water, 3 tablespoons of salt, and 2 tablespoons of Old Bay seasoning. Add the garlic cloves (you can crush them for more flavor) and squeeze the juice of half a lemon into the pot. Place the lemon halves in the pot as well.
- 3
Bring to a Boil
Bring the mixture to a rapid boil over high heat. Make sure all the flavors meld together.
- 4
Cook the Shrimp
Once the water is boiling, carefully add the shrimp to the pot. Cook for about 2-4 minutes until the shrimp turn pink and opaque.
- 5
Drain and Cool
Once cooked, drain the shrimp into a colander and allow them to cool slightly. You can run cold water over them to stop the cooking process if desired.
- 6
Prepare for Serving
Melt 4 tablespoons of butter in a small saucepan. Serve the shrimp warm with melted butter on the side, and hot sauce for dipping if desired.
