Method
Making the Dough
- 1
Activate Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- 2
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour and salt.
- 3
Combine Ingredients
Once the yeast mixture is frothy, add it to the flour mixture along with olive oil. Stir until a dough begins to form.
- 4
Knead the Dough
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 5
Let It Rise
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm area for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Assembling the Pizza
- 6
Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If you have a pizza stone, place it in the oven to heat as well.
- 7
Roll Out the Dough
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and transfer it to a floured surface. Roll it out into a small circle about 8-10 inches in diameter.
- 8
Add Sauce and Cheese
Transfer the rolled-out dough to a baking sheet or pizza stone. Spread the tomato sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a small border for the crust. Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese on top.
- 9
Season the Pizza
Sprinkle dried oregano and ground black pepper over the cheese.
- 10
Bake the Pizza
Place the pizza in the preheated oven and bake for about 10-12 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly.
- 11
Garnish and Serve
Remove the pizza from the oven, let it cool for a minute, and garnish with fresh basil leaves. Slice and serve.
