Method

Turkey Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 325°F (163°C).

  2. 2

    Prepare the Turkey

Pat the whole turkey dry with paper towels. Rub the turkey all over with olive oil, then season generously with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and fresh thyme.

  3. 3

    Roast the Turkey

Place the turkey breast-side up on a rack in a roasting pan. Roast in the preheated oven for about 2 to 3 hours, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C). Baste the turkey with pan juices every 30 minutes.

  4. 4

    Rest the Turkey

Once cooked, remove the turkey from the oven and let it rest for at least 30 minutes before pulling the meat off the bone.

  5. 5

    Shred the Turkey

Use two forks to pull the turkey meat apart into shreds.

Sandwich Assembly

  1. 6

    Prepare the Vegetables

Slice the tomato and onion thinly. Wash and dry the lettuce leaves.

  2. 7

    Assemble the Sandwich

On a slice of whole grain bread, spread 1 tablespoon of mayonnaise. Layer with shredded turkey, a slice of provolone cheese, lettuce, tomato slices, and onion slices. Top with another slice of bread.

  3. 8

    Serve

Repeat the assembly for additional sandwiches. Serve fresh and enjoy your Homemade Turkey Sandwich!
