Method

Prepare the Meat

  1. 1

    Mix Ground Meats

In a large mixing bowl, combine the lean ground lamb and lean ground beef. Mix well using your hands or a spoon until fully incorporated.

  2. 2

    Add Seasoning

Add garlic powder, onion powder, dried oregano, ground cumin, paprika, salt, and black pepper to the meat mixture. Mix until the seasonings are evenly distributed throughout the meat.

Cook the Meat

  1. 3

    Shape and Broil

Shape the meat mixture into oval patties or logs. Place on a broiling pan lined with aluminum foil for easier cleanup. Broil in the oven on high for about 10-15 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the meat is browned and cooked through.

  2. 4

    Rest the Meat

Once cooked, remove the meat from the oven and let it rest for 5 minutes before slicing. This helps retain the juices.

Serve the Gyros

  1. 5

    Prepare Pita and Vegetables

Warm the pita bread in the oven or on a skillet for a few minutes until soft. Slice the tomatoes, cucumbers, and red onion.

  2. 6

    Assemble the Platter

On each pita, place a portion of the sliced gyros meat, followed by the sliced vegetables. Drizzle with tzatziki sauce and serve immediately.
