Potatoes

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Wash and Peel Potatoes

Thoroughly wash the russet potatoes under cold water to remove any dirt. Peel the potatoes using a vegetable peeler.

  2. 2

    Cut Potatoes into Fries

Cut the peeled potatoes into evenly sized sticks, approximately 1/4 inch thick, for uniform cooking.

Soaking

  1. 3

    Soak in Water

Place the cut fries in a large bowl of cold water and let them soak for at least 30 minutes. This step helps remove excess starch and results in crispier fries.

Frying

  1. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a large pot or deep fryer, add vegetable oil and heat it to 350°F (175°C).

  2. 5

    Dry the Fries

After soaking, drain the fries and pat them dry with a clean kitchen towel or paper towels to remove excess moisture.

  3. 6

    Fry the Potatoes

Carefully add a batch of fries to the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pot. Fry for about 4-5 minutes or until they are golden brown.

  4. 7

    Drain and Season

Once cooked, use a slotted spoon to remove the fries and transfer them to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Immediately sprinkle with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder while they're still hot.

Serving

  1. 8

    Serve Hot

Serve the fries hot with your favorite dipping sauce, such as ketchup or aioli.
