Marinated Chicken
Pita and Toppings
Method
Marinating the Chicken
- 1
Prepare the Marinade
In a mixing bowl, combine olive oil, Greek yogurt, lemon juice, minced garlic, oregano, cumin, salt, and black pepper. Whisk until well blended.
- 2
Marinate the Chicken
Place the chicken breasts into a resealable plastic bag or shallow dish. Pour the marinade over the chicken, ensuring all pieces are coated. Seal the bag or cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or up to overnight for best results.
Cooking the Chicken
- 3
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- 4
Bake the Chicken
Remove the chicken from the marinade and place it on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through and no longer pink in the center.
- 5
Rest the Chicken
Once cooked, remove the chicken from the oven and let it rest for 5 minutes before slicing.
Assembling the Gyros
- 6
Prepare the Pita
Warm the pita bread in the oven for a few minutes or on a hot skillet until soft and pliable.
- 7
Slice the Chicken
Thinly slice the cooked chicken breast.
- 8
Build the Gyros
Lay the warm pita on a plate. Top with sliced chicken, shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, sliced red onion, crumbled feta cheese, and a generous dollop of tzatziki sauce. Add hot sauce if desired.
- 9
Serve
Fold the pita around the fillings and serve immediately. Enjoy your homemade chicken gyros!
