Espresso

Steamed Milk

Method

Brewing Espresso

  1. 1

    Prepare the Espresso

Start by measuring out 18 grams of espresso coffee grounds. Use a coffee grinder to grind the beans to a fine consistency.

  2. 2

    Brew the Espresso

Place the ground coffee into the espresso machine's portafilter and tamp it down firmly. Lock the portafilter into the machine and start brewing. Aim to extract about 30-40 ml of espresso, which should take about 25-30 seconds.

Steaming Milk

  1. 3

    Prepare the Milk

Pour 240 ml of your choice of milk into a steaming pitcher.

  2. 4

    Steam the Milk

Insert the steam wand into the pitcher just below the surface of the milk. Turn on the steam and gradually lower the pitcher to create a whirlpool effect, heating the milk to around 65-70°C (149-158°F).

  3. 5

    Froth the Milk

Once the milk is heated, move the steam wand deeper into the milk to create froth. Turn off the steam and remove the wand.

Assembling the Latte

  1. 6

    Combine Espresso and Milk

Pour the freshly brewed espresso into a large coffee mug. Slowly add the steamed milk over the espresso, allowing the foam to rise to the top.

  2. 7

    Serve

Enjoy your latte as is, or add flavorings like vanilla syrup or a sprinkle of cocoa powder on top, if desired.
