Method

Preparation

1

Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) to ensure it's hot enough for baking the scones.

2

Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt. Whisk together until well mixed.

3

Cut in Butter

Add the cold unsalted butter to the flour mixture. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to cut the butter into the flour until it resembles coarse crumbs.

Combining Ingredients

4

Add Wet Ingredients

Pour the milk and vanilla extract into the flour and butter mixture. Stir gently with a spatula or wooden spoon until just combined. Do not overmix.

Shaping and Baking

5

Shape the Dough

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Gently knead it a few times until it comes together. Pat the dough into a circle about 1-inch thick.

6

Cut the Scones

Using a sharp knife or a pastry cutter, cut the dough into 8 wedges (like a pizza) or use a round cutter for circular scones. Place the scones on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

7

Bake

Bake the scones in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until they are golden brown on top. Keep an eye on them to avoid overbaking.

Serving

8

Serve with Jam

Remove the scones from the oven and let them cool slightly. Serve warm with your favorite jam.
