Filling and Topping

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Filling

In a large skillet, brown the ground lamb or beef over medium heat. Add the chopped onion, carrots, celery, and garlic. Sauté until the vegetables are tender, about 5-7 minutes.

  2. 2

    Add Broth and Seasonings

Stir in the frozen peas, broth, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper. Let the mixture simmer for about 10 minutes until it thickens slightly.

  3. 3

    Make the Mashed Potatoes

While the filling simmers, boil the cubed potatoes in salted water until tender, about 15 minutes. Drain and mash with butter and milk until smooth and creamy.

  4. 4

    Assemble the Pie

Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). In a baking dish, spread the meat filling evenly. Top with the mashed potatoes, and sprinkle with shredded cheddar cheese.

  5. 5

    Bake

Bake in the preheated oven for about 25-30 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.

  6. 6

    Serve

Let the Shepherd’s Pie cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy your comforting dish!
