Prepare the Patties
Divide the ground beef into 2 equal portions and form them into thin patties. Season both sides with salt and black pepper.
- 3
Cook the Patties
In the same skillet, add a tablespoon of butter and increase the heat to medium-high. Once hot, add the patties and cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until a nice crust forms and they are cooked to your desired doneness.
- 4
Melt the Cheese
During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of American cheese on each patty and cover the skillet with a lid to help the cheese melt.
- 5
Assemble the Patty Melt
Spread Fontana sauce on one side of each slice of sourdough bread. Place a patty with melted cheese on top, followed by a generous portion of caramelized onions. Top with another slice of sourdough, sauce side down.
