Onion Rings
Method
Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Onions
Peel the onions and slice them into 1/4-inch thick rings. Separate the rings and set them aside.
- 2
Make the Batter
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Gradually add the buttermilk while mixing until a smooth batter forms.
- 3
Heat the Oil
In a deep skillet or fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 375°F (190°C).
- 4
Coat the Onion Rings
Dip each onion ring into the batter, allowing excess to drip off before placing them in the hot oil.
- 5
Fry the Onion Rings
Fry the onion rings in batches for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown. Remove them with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
- 6
Serve
Serve hot with house ketchup on the side for dipping.
