Preparation Steps

  1. 1

    Marinate the Chicken

In a large bowl, combine the chicken pieces and buttermilk. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight for best results.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Coating

In another bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and Nashville Hot Dry Rub. Mix well to ensure the rub is evenly distributed.

  3. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a large, heavy-bottomed skillet or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  4. 4

    Coat the Chicken

Remove the chicken from the buttermilk, allowing excess to drip off. Dredge each piece in the flour mixture, coating thoroughly.

  5. 5

    Fry the Chicken

Carefully place the coated chicken pieces into the hot oil. Fry for about 10-12 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through (internal temperature should reach 165°F/74°C).

  6. 6

    Drain and Rest

Once cooked, remove the chicken from the oil and place it on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Let it rest for a few minutes.

  7. 7

    Assemble the Sandwich

Spread mayonnaise on the bottom half of a sandwich bun, add shredded lettuce, and top with the fried chicken. Optionally, add more Nashville Hot Dry Rub for extra heat.
