Tea Base

Method

Prepare the Tea Base

  1. 1

    Boil Water

In a medium saucepan, bring 2 cups of water to a boil over medium-high heat.

  2. 2

    Add Tea and Spices

Once the water is boiling, add the black tea leaves (or tea bags), cinnamon stick, cardamom pods, cloves, and grated ginger. Stir well.

  3. 3

    Simmer

Reduce the heat to low and let the tea mixture simmer for about 5-7 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.

  4. 4

    Sweeten

Remove from heat and strain the tea into a jug or teapot. Add sugar or sweetener to taste, stirring until dissolved.

Prepare Milk Foam

  1. 5

    Heat Milk

In a small saucepan, heat 1 cup of milk over medium heat until steaming but not boiling.

  2. 6

    Froth Milk

Use a milk frother or whisk vigorously to froth the milk until it is creamy and has doubled in volume. Stir in 1 tsp of vanilla extract.

Assemble the Chai Tea Latte

  1. 7

    Combine

Pour the hot tea base into a large mug, filling it about two-thirds full.

  2. 8

    Add Milk Foam

Top the tea with the frothed milk, spooning the foam generously over the top.

  3. 9

    Serve

Serve hot or iced. For iced, let the tea cool down before pouring over ice.
